Adopt-A-Vet
Everyone needs a family! And the residents of the Idaho State Veterans Home need family, too! We are offering our Adopt-A-Vet program to you as an opportunity for you, your organization, your church group, or your family to come alongside one of these heroes to be family to him or her.
When you “adopt” a veteran, you are helping to combat loneliness, make him/her feel appreciated, give him/her something to look forward to, and help to fill the long hours of the days. Would you consider coming alongside? We are asking for a one-year commitment to the veteran you choose to honor in this way.
Here are ways you can be “family” to your veteran:

-
Occasionally correspond with your adopted veteran (perhaps once a month?)
-
Stop by the Home now and then to extend personal greetings and to take the edge off the loneliness they often feel
-
Send greeting cards on “special days”, i.e. Valentine’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and birthdays (this is a great way to enlist the help of a scout troop, church group, or school group)
-
Provide a personalized birthday and Christmas gift if you are able to do so
-
Provide assistance in obtaining personal items, with the exception of toiletries that are provided by the Home
-
Join the volunteers in accompanying YOUR veteran on outings planned by the Home
-
Ask questions and give opportunities to share their stories
-
Well-behaved pets are also welcome visitors!
-
Requirements include filling out Volunteer Application forms, meeting with the Volunteer Coordinator and attending a short training/orientation session designed to help you feel as comfortable as possible being your veteran's new FAMILY!
Below is a QR code for the volunteer registration form. Please specify that you are interested in the Adopt -A-Vet Program under "What brings you to the veterans home?"

Thank you for your desire to honor America’s heroes in this way.
